COVID Statement July 5, 2020

Posted On: Jul 05th, 2020

With the incidents of Covid-19 infections continuing to rise throughout the country, the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo continues to take preventative measures to help protect our staff, animals, and guests.  Despite these efforts, we recently learned that we have other staff who have tested positive for COVID-19.  This employee alerted us immediately upon learning that they had tested positive.  All other employees that may have had direct contact with this employee were alerted and the common work areas were cleaned/disinfected.  The affected employees will remain under quarantine until test results are returned.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Zoo will be closed on Monday, July 6th, for a professional company to come to the Zoo for an overall disinfection of all indoor areas.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may create for our guests, but we must ensure a healthy work environment for our staff.

All of us must stay vigilant in our activities during these unprecedented times.  At the Zoo, we will continue to:

  • take employee temperatures daily;
  • wear face coverings when in the public spaces or when we cannot properly social distance from co-workers and others;
  • remain vigilant in our cleaning practices to ensure that the Zoo remains cleaned and disinfected to the extent possible.

Thank you for your understanding during our temporary closure of the Zoo.  Please stay safe and stay healthy.  Thank you.
