Only 1.3 miles from the Gulf of Mexico on flood-prone land, the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo has endured multiple hurricans that forced the evacuation of hundreds of animals.

A new facility, financed with #27 million of municipal bonds, is being built outside the flood zone with buildings that can withstand a severe category 5 hurricanes.
