The non-profit Zoo Foundation paid $1.49 million for 71.6 acres off Baldwin County 6 in Gulf Shores, just east of the the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo's existing property, according to Frank Malone of Bellator Real Estate & Development, who represented the sellers. The zoo owns 25 acres adjacent to the property and work is under way to build the new zoo.
