Message from our Director

Posted On: Aug 15th, 2020

In July, our Governor issued a face covering Order for the State of Alabama which has been extended until the end of August.  In compliance with that Order, The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo continues to take preventative measures to help protect our staff, animals, and guests against the coronavirus.  As such, guests coming to visit the Zoo are strongly encouraged to wear face coverings while visiting the Zoo.  We continue to ask that all guest groups remain socially distant from one another while enjoying the Zoo.

We now have the giraffe encounters open!  Each day at 10 am and again at 2 pm, we offer the opportunity to feed our wonderful giraffe, Benjamin and Akayla.  We do require guests to wear masks while participating in the giraffe feedings.  We also only allow one family group at a time into the feeding area.  This is an exciting opportunity, but we do ask that everyone remains properly socially distanced throughout the process, including while waiting your turn.

We have also reopened our domestic animal barn for guests to enjoy the sheep, goats, pigs, and other barnyard animals.

As the summer comes to a close and the temperatures become less oppressive, the Zoo is ready for you to visit and create your next adventure.  Whether it is feeding Benjamin, flying high over the Zoo on the Soaring Eagle Zipline, meeting Bruce Quillis, or experiencing the marvels of nature with all the animals in the Zoo, our staff is ready to welcome you.

Come visit, learn a little about the animals, conservation, and the world around us.  We have cold drinks throughout the Zoo for those hot days that are still ahead of us.  Burgers and a variety of sandwiches are available at the food truck in Coola Springs.  Or stay for a fine dinner after hours at the Safari Club Restaurant.  All of this is waiting for you each day at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo.

We all must stay vigilant in our activities during these unprecedented times; thus, we strongly encourage our guests to wear masks throughout their visit to help protect our staff and one another.

Please stay safe, stay healthy, and come visit your Zoo!  Thank you.
